August 21, BioLink’s newly built intelligent workshop for Protein A and hydroxyapatite B15 chromatography resins has officially been put into operation in Lanzhou New Area. This marks another pivotal leap for BioLink on its journey toward the import substitution of core pharmaceutical consumables, advancing from technological breakthroughs to large‑scale, high‑quality and stable supply.
The launch event for the automated B15 resin production line, themed Building a Intelligent Manufacturing Foundation, Chromatograph a Healthier Future, was successfully held with strong support from the Lanzhou New Area government. BioLink’s management team and key partners across the biopharmaceutical industry chain jointly witnessed the official commissioning of the new workshop and automated production lines.

Built upon BioLink’s proprietary, robust manufacturing processes and equipped with full‑automatic controls, the new workshop for Protein A and hydroxyapatite B15 resins represents a major milestone in the company’s sustained drive to industrialize chromatography resins and develop intelligent manufacturing. As part of Lanzhou New Area’s biomedicine industrial layout, BioLink’s Lanzhou site has gradually built up an industrial system covering R&D, production and quality management through phased development. The newly launched production lines will further boost the base’s capabilities in automated manufacturing, large‑volume production and supply assurance, laying a more solid manufacturing foundation for the sustained growth of its chromatography resin business.

Housing fully automated Protein A coupling lines and hydroxyapatite production lines, the B15 workshop constitutes a key initiative for BioLink to further improve its automated manufacturing system for chromatography resins.
To date, BioLink’s Lanzhou facility has completed one 500 L and three 1000 L automated production lines for a full portfolio of chromatography resins, with one polymer resin automated line currently under construction. Paired with a fully automated filling line, the site delivers end‑to‑end intelligent manufacturing workflows that improve operational efficiency and batch‑to‑batch consistency, reaching an overall automation rate of 90 %. The annual production capacity for agarose‑dextran chromatography resins hits 250 000 liters, while hydroxyapatite capacity stands at 10 tons. The site also features more than 3 000 m² of Class A explosion‑proof workshops, alongside GMP‑compliant Grade‑D clean filling and warehouse zones, providing the infrastructure required for large‑scale chromatography resin production.
“When we first broke ground on the intelligent manufacturing resin base in Lanzhou, our goal was to build an integrated hub for both R&D and industrial‑scale production of chromatography resins,” said Chen Zhi, Founder and Chairman of BioLink. “The launch of the B15 workshop is not merely an upgrade to our physical facilities; it is a critical step in strengthening our manufacturing and supply‑security capabilities.”
“At its heart, intelligent manufacturing is not only about lifting productivity, but also about building a more stable, well‑controlled production system to deliver reliable products and dependable supply to our customers,” Chen Zhi commented. Moving forward, BioLink will keep driving the coordinated advancement of its products, technologies and manufacturing strengths, and work together with customers to expand the large‑scale adoption of domestically‑produced chromatography resins beyond simple import substitution.

The commissioning of the new B15 production line has further strengthened the product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities of BioLink’s Lanzhou manufacturing base for chromatography resins. Currently, BioLink’s chromatography resin portfolio covers multiple product categories, including dextran- and agarose-based resins, polymer-based resins, and hydroxyapatite, with applications based on various chromatography principles such as ion exchange, affinity, hydrophobic interaction, filtration, multimode, and reversed-phase chromatography. The portfolio now encompasses more than one hundred product variants.
The commissioning of the B15 Workshop will further enhance the large-scale manufacturing capabilities of products such as Protein A and hydroxyapatite, while enabling synergy with the existing automated production lines at the base. This will accelerate the evolution of BioLink’s chromatography resin business from a diversified product portfolio toward a more comprehensive industrialization system covering a full range of product categories.
Meanwhile, BioLink’s Lanzhou manufacturing base has implemented digital production management and safety control through the DCS (Distributed Control System) and GDS (Gas Detection System) platforms, enabling real-time monitoring and automated control of critical process parameters. These efforts continue to improve the standardization, digitalization, and automation of manufacturing processes. In 2024, the base was also recognized as a “Digital Workshop” by Gansu Province.

With the continued growth of the biopharmaceutical industry, chromatography resins, as critical materials in downstream purification processes, have drawn increasing attention for their product performance, quality consistency, and supply capabilities. For domestic chromatography resins, transitioning from product development to large-scale application requires not only continuous breakthroughs in core technologies, but also stable and reliable industrial manufacturing capabilities. The official commissioning of the B15 Workshop marks a significant achievement in BioLink’s ongoing efforts toward this goal.
